Turning

Turning creates rotationally symmetrical shapes such as spheres, cones or cylinders. To do so, as with drilling, milling and grinding, chips are removed from the workpiece.

You say "turning", because the piece of metal to be machined, in order to shape it, is rotated about its own axis, while the turning tool moves off the contour.

The work is done by a so called "lathe". Depending on the desired shape, however, a different method variant is used. In general, a distinction is first made between facing and turning. .
